Listed below are examples of meals, snacks and drinks which I suggest for the days after birth. Some recipes include ingredients which need pre-night soaking. Using homemade organic ghee and preferably organic ingredients.
Slow Cook Rice porridge: Made with plenty of herbs and spices that help recovery, digestion and promote breastfeeding. Also good during labor and even up to 5 times daily the first few days after birth.
Kitchari: This is the number one traditional postpartum food, made with mung dhal(yellow split peas) and basmati rice, vegetables and variety of spices.
Postpartum vegetable curry:made with vegetables of your choice.
Simple steamed veg: With melted ghee and roasted garlic.
Beetroot coconut soup
Carrot corriander soup
Vegetable soup of your choice
Chicken broth soup
Meals can include: rice, fresh chapaty, or grains of your choice.
Lactation tea
Badam milk: made with almonds, served warm.
Almond shatavary drink
Date Energy Shake: (lactose free) his can be a substantial snack or breakfast and can be served right after birth!
Steamed Apples & Pears
Ladus: Traditional Indian power balls for lower back recovery and breast milk production. (made in batches to last a few weeks)
